About me

I am Kronspire

Just one person making mods for Minecraft 1.7.10 and The Lord of the Rings Mod.

Who I am

I make mods for the LOTR Mod v36.15 on Minecraft 1.7.10. Most people moved on from that version years ago, but the LOTR community still plays it. Some of my mods add stuff you can see, like Moria as a playable faction, territory that changes hands, or banners that claim land. Others are the kind of thing nobody notices until it breaks, like raising the block and item ID limits without wrecking anyone's world.

A lot of it comes out of the Pacman LOTR community, since that's where the modpack gets played and where I hear about most bugs. If something of mine breaks your world, tell me. I'd much rather know.

Everything I put out is free. I do this in my spare time because I enjoy it, and because people still play this version and deserve mods that work.

How I work

Things I learned the hard way.

  1. I never guess a descriptor

SRG names and method signatures get transcribed from the real jar. A stub with the wrong field type throws NoSuchFieldError and names a field that visibly exists. I've lost whole evenings to that.

  2. I instrument before I theorise

When something fails silently, I add logging before I start guessing. I once had four confident theories in a row, and a single print statement proved all of them wrong.

  3. I suspect the superclass

If you extend LOTR's Angmar or Dol Guldur classes, you also inherit their quests and armour whether you want them or not. My goblins were handing out Angmar quests until I caught it.

  4. My renames ship with aliases

Entities are saved by their registration name. If you rename one without keeping the old name as an alias, everyone's mobs vanish when they load their world.

What I build with

Java8 and 17
BuildGradle · MCP→SRG reobf
RuntimeRetroFuturaBootstrap · lwjgl3ify
This siteNode.js · Express

Moria Goblins builds on Java 8. The bigger projects build on Java 17 and get remapped to the names the game loads when I package them. Claims Overhaul is written with those names from the start and has a check that catches mistakes.

I built this site myself too.
